#001 - A LETTER FROM LONDON

A Letter from London

I’m writing to you from a rainy, grey London, after a Twig-filled summer of art, architecture, sunshine, and long stretches of quiet inspiration. As we return home, we thought it the right moment to begin sharing small stories from behind the scenes at Twig: fragments of our travels, moments in the clothes we make, and the textures that shape our world.

We're a small team, still learning, still finding our rhythm, so thank you for bearing with us as we figure it out. Twig has always felt like more than just clothing: It's a lens through which we observe, connect, and collect a way of carrying fragments of the places we love.

This June, my husband and I spent several weeks cycling through the Alpine mountains with close friends - a slow, thoughtful route between quiet towns nestled in the hills, our only transport: bicycles. The rhythm of cycling gifted us long stretches to think, observe, and breathe.

What marked these moments wasn’t just the movement or the air but the views, the culture, the stillness. Evenings filled with warm food, long conversations, and the satisfying quiet of a day well-travelled. One place left a particular impression: Santo Stefano di Sessanio, a small, fortified hill town in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The village has undergone a careful and deeply respectful restoration reimagined as an albergo diffuso, or “scattered hotel.”

This concept preserves the existing village architecture, allowing guests to stay within homes, towers, and spaces that maintain their original character and patina.

The restoration captured our attention. It’s a model of architectural humility allowing the village’s history to speak softly through stone and shadow, rather than being overwritten. It was a reminder: that beauty, when left to breathe, rarely needs embellishment… just like Twig. In both, there is a belief that restraint can be its own kind of richness. That by leaving space, we allow the wearer, or the place, to tell its own story.

We look forward to sharing more of these moments with you, and the ways they weave into Twig’s world.
